What LifeQuest does with your data
The short version. Your quests, stats, skills, habits, journal entries and uploaded images live in a local database on your phone. LifeQuest has no general sync: none of that content is uploaded anywhere unless you deliberately turn on a feature that needs it — a shared team, a Global Quest, an encrypted backup to your own Google Drive.
There is no advertising, no profiling, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK in the app. We do not sell data, and nothing here is used to build a profile of you.
1. Who is responsible
LifeQuest is developed and operated by JMMer (Italy), the data controller for the processing described here. You can reach us at [email protected] for anything on this page, including the rights listed in section 16.
2. What stays on your device
Everything you create in the app is written to a local Hive database inside the app's private storage, protected by the standard Android and iOS sandboxing:
- quests and sub-quests, gates, rewards and the whole quest tree;
- stats, levels, XP and the historical progression used by the charts;
- skills, achievements and habits, including streaks and reminders;
- journal entries;
- images you upload or capture for quests, skills and profile;
- your profile: display name, avatar, motto, bio, gender if you fill it in;
- onboarding quiz answers, home-screen layout, theme and other preferences.
None of it is transmitted to us. Uninstalling the app, or using Settings → Danger Zone → Reset everything, removes it from the device. One thing survives a reset on purpose — see section 15.
3. When a cloud account comes into existence
The app is fully usable with no account at all. A cloud account is created only when
you sign in with Google (Android) or Apple (iOS), and
only then do the features in sections 5 to 8 become available. The account lives on
Supabase, in the European Union (region eu-central-1,
Frankfurt).
The account itself holds: your OAuth identifier, the email address the provider returns, your app language, a timestamp of your last visit, your AI credit balance and its ledger, in-app purchase receipts, and the AI usage counters used for rate limiting. When we ask for a consent flag (AI features, backups), we store that flag too, so we can prove what you agreed to.
4. What we store in the cloud, why, and for how long
| Data | Why | Legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account record (OAuth id, email, language, last seen) | Running the account you asked for | Art. 6(1)(b) — contract | Until deletion + 30-day grace |
| Team, team quests and progress | Shared quests only work on a server | Art. 6(1)(b) — contract | Until deleted; auto-purge after 12 months of inactivity |
| Global Quest completions and Hall of Fame entries | Community events and their public results | Art. 6(1)(a) — consent, per entry | Until you withdraw it or delete the account |
| Push token and notification settings | Delivering the notifications you enabled | Art. 6(1)(a) — consent | Until you turn notifications off or sign out |
| AI credits, ledger, purchase receipts | Selling and honouring credits, refunds, accounting | Art. 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(c) | Up to 10 years where tax law requires it |
| AI usage counters | Rate limiting and abuse prevention | Art. 6(1)(f) — legitimate interest | Rolling window, purged daily |
| Backup key salt | Letting you restore a backup on a new phone | Art. 6(1)(b) — contract | Until account deletion |
| Pseudonymous anti-abuse identifier | Stopping repeated claims of the welcome bonus | Art. 6(1)(f) — fraud prevention | Kept after deletion — see section 15 |
Your quests, habits, stats, journal and images are not in that table, because they are not uploaded. The only exception is content you put into a team or a backup, described next.
5. Teams
A team is shared by design, so it cannot be local. When you create or join one, the following is stored on our Supabase database and is visible to the other members of that team: the team name, the display name you chose for yourself in it, the quest tree the team works on (titles, descriptions, emoji, checklist items, counter targets), who is assigned to what, who ticked what and when, and the rewards the team quest hands out.
Invites are single-use links with a 7-day expiry. The owner can delete the team, which physically removes the team and everything under it. There are caps on how many teams you can own or belong to, to keep the shared data proportionate.
Retention. A team with no activity for 12 months is flagged, its owner is warned in the app, and if nothing happens for roughly another month it is deleted automatically, together with its quests, members and invites (Art. 5(1)(e)).
Anything you type into a team quest is readable by your teammates. Please do not put things there that you would not want them to have.
6. Global Quests and the Hall of Fame
Global Quests are time-limited challenges we publish to everyone. Completing one stores a single record — which quest, which account, and when — used for the world counter and for the achievement you unlock. That record contains no free text.
After finishing one in time you may opt in to its Hall of Fame by entering a display name. That is a separate consent, off by default, with two independent switches: showing the name inside the app, and including it in a social media shout-out. You can withdraw either at any time from Settings → Privacy → Hall of Fame — we remove withdrawn names from our own channels, but we cannot recall copies other people may already have made.
Submitted names are moderated before they are shown: cheap automated checks first (length, links, handles, reserved words), then a single review pass at the deadline in which the pending names are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to be judged for abuse and profanity. Only the name is sent — nothing else about you. Rejected names are never displayed. You can report another user's Hall of Fame entry; the report stores who reported whom, and an optional reason, so we can act on it.
7. AI features — currently switched off
The AI Quest Builder and AI Challenges are built but not enabled in the released app: the entry points show a "coming soon" screen, no request can reach a model, and no credits can be bought or spent. This section describes what will happen when we turn them on, and this page will be updated before that.
When enabled, using the builder sends your message text plus a minimal digest of your setup (names of stats, skills and active quests — never journal entries, never images) to Anthropic PBC, which generates the response and returns it. We do not use your content to train any model, and Anthropic does not train on API traffic. The legal basis is your consent, given by using the feature.
8. Notifications
Local notifications — habit reminders and quest deadlines — are scheduled by your phone. They never touch a server, and they only need the OS notification permission, which we ask for at the moment you turn a reminder on.
Push notifications require a device token: FCM on Android (delivered by Google), APNs on iOS (delivered by Apple directly — the app contains no Firebase iOS SDK). The token identifies the installation, not you: it holds no name and no email. We use it to tell you when a teammate advances a shared quest and when a new Global Quest drops. Team-progress notifications are on once you join a team — joining is what they are for — and both kinds can be turned off at any time in Settings, which deletes the token server-side. Quiet hours (22:00–08:00 by default) are respected.
9. Encrypted backups to your own Google Drive
Optional. When you turn backups on, the app packages your local data — quests, habits, stats, skills, achievements, journal entries and uploaded images — encrypts the package on your device with AES-256-GCM, and uploads it to the appdata folder of your Google Drive: a private sandbox only LifeQuest can see, inside your own storage. The backup never passes through our infrastructure.
The key is derived with Argon2id from your Google account identifier combined with a random salt we store on your account row. We hold the salt but never the backup; Google holds the backup but never the key. You can delete a backup from the app, or revoke LifeQuest's Drive access from your Google account at any time.
10. Share codes and shared images
You can export a quest, a skill, an achievement or a habit as a text code and send it through any app you like. The code carries the content itself — it does not go through any server of ours and we never see it. It contains no journal entries, no progress and no images. If you switch on "include author name" before sharing, your nickname travels inside that one code; the switch is off by default and is per-share consent.
Sharing an achievement or a completed quest as a picture renders the image on your device and hands it to the system share sheet. Where it goes after that is up to you and the app you send it to.
11. Home-screen widgets, export and import
Home-screen widgets read a snapshot the app writes to shared storage on the device (an App Group on iOS). It stays on the phone and is not transmitted.
Settings → Data exports everything local as a JSON file you control (Art. 20, portability) and imports one back. The file is produced on your device; we never receive a copy.
12. Payments
AI credits, when they launch, are in-app purchases handled entirely by Google Play or the App Store. We never see your card. We keep the transaction identifier, the product purchased and the amount in credits, to grant what you bought, reconcile refunds and meet Italian bookkeeping obligations.
13. Who else processes your data
-
Supabase Inc. (US company, our instance in the EU,
eu-central-1) — database, OAuth sessions and serverless functions. - Google LLC — OAuth sign-in, Google Play billing, FCM push on Android, and Drive as the host of your encrypted backups.
- Apple Inc. — Sign in with Apple, App Store billing, APNs push on iOS.
- Anthropic PBC — AI generation (once enabled) and the Hall of Fame name moderation pass.
Each acts as a processor or, for the store and identity services, as an independent controller under its own policy. Transfers outside the EU take place under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with the supplementary measures those providers publish. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not disclose it to anyone else except where the law obliges us to.
14. Deleting your account
Settings → Danger Zone → Delete account starts a 30-day grace period. During it, signing in again restores everything, including credits. After 30 days an hourly job permanently erases the account and the cloud data attached to it: teams you own, your team memberships, Global Quest completions and Hall of Fame entries, push tokens, credits, receipts and your backup salt. Data on your device is untouched and keeps working offline.
15. Two identifiers that outlive a reset
Install identifier. A random value generated on first launch, kept on the device and deliberately preserved by "Reset everything". It identifies the installation, contains nothing personal, and exists so the welcome credit grant cannot be farmed by wiping the app repeatedly.
Pseudonymous account fingerprint. After permanent deletion we keep, for an unlimited period, a value derived from your Google or Apple identifier, together with a flag saying whether the welcome bonus was already claimed. It carries no name and no email and cannot be linked back to you without the identity provider's cooperation. It exists purely to stop delete-and-recreate abuse. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f), fraud prevention, balanced against your rights — if you want it removed too, write to us and we will weigh the request case by case.
16. Your rights
Under Articles 15 to 22 GDPR you can ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interest. Much of it is immediate in the app: export in Settings → Data, erasure of local data with Reset everything, cloud erasure with Delete account, withdrawal of Hall of Fame consent in Settings → Privacy, notification consent with the toggles.
For anything else write to [email protected]; we answer within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Italian supervisory authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), or to the authority where you live.
17. Security
Every network call uses TLS. Cloud tables are protected by row-level security so an account can only read its own rows and the teams it belongs to, and every write goes through a server-side function rather than direct table access. Backups are encrypted before they leave the device. The app ships no analytics or crash-reporting SDK, so there is no background telemetry to leak. If a breach ever affects your data we will notify the Garante within 72 hours and tell you directly where the law requires it.
18. Age
LifeQuest is not directed at children. Creating a cloud account requires you to be at least 14 in Italy, or the minimum age for consent to information-society services in your country. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
19. Changes
This page is versioned. Substantial changes — a new category of data, a new processor, a feature that needs a new consent — are published here before that feature is switched on, and the app links to this page from Settings and from the sign-in screen.
20. Contact
JMMer — [email protected]. Write to the same address for any request about your data; say which account (the email you signed in with) so we can find it.

Informativa privacy di LifeQuest
In breve.
- quest e sotto-quest, gate, ricompense e l'intero albero delle quest;
- statistiche, livelli, XP e lo storico di progressione usato dai grafici;
- abilità, obiettivi e abitudini, comprese le serie e i promemoria;
- voci di diario;
- immagini che carichi o scatti per quest, abilità e profilo;
- il tuo profilo: nome, avatar, motto, biografia, genere se lo compili;
3. Quando nasce un account cloud
L'app è pienamente utilizzabile senza alcun account.
Supabase, nell'Unione Europea (regione eu-central-1,
Francoforte).
6. Quest Globali e Hall of Fame
11. Widget, esportazione e importazione
13. Chi altro tratta i tuoi dati
-
Supabase Inc. (società statunitense, nostra istanza nell'UE,
eu-central-1) — database, sessioni OAuth e funzioni serverless.
Impronta pseudonima dell'account.
16. I tuoi diritti
